Below is this week’s “Safety App of the Week“. Every Monday we publish an article that reviews and rates a new workplace safety app. Our testing is done on Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3s. We rate each app from ♥ to ♥♥♥♥♥ (♥♥♥♥♥ is the best). Prior app of the week articles are archived here.

“ISHN Magazine allows users to access ISHN-exclusive content via smartphones and tablets. Industrial hygienists and safety and health managers in oil & gas, manufacturing, construction, healthcare, service and other industries can search and read both magazine and website articles, how-to features, blogs, EHS and public health news, regulatory updates, and product information. Additionally, they can view videos and receive alerts to breaking news.“1
Thumbs Up
- cost is free
- good graphics, visually attractive
- simple, easy to use, no instructions needed
- well written, authoritative safety and health articles
- articles are updated once each month
- can be used off-line
Thumbs Down
- before you can use this app, you first must register at their website to get a free ID and password
- the search feature does not work very well
- this app locked up with regularity on our tablets (did not test with smartphones)
- the table of contents is hard to find, when on the home page click on the orange box in the upper left corner to access the table of contents

- Overall – Great content, but the many lock ups are frustrating. Because of the lock ups, we prefer to read this safety magazine on the ISHN website.
