Below is this week’s “Safety App of the Week“.  Every Monday we publish an article that reviews and rates a new workplace safety app.  Our testing is done on Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3s.  We rate each app from to ♥♥♥♥♥ (♥♥♥♥♥ is the best).  Prior app of the week articles are archived here.

Reportable – Risk, Audit and Project Management

Official Description

“Keep your business up to date with government guidelines by creating digital checklists for your staff and should any of these checks fail, action these tasks to appropriate personnel.   Reportable is tool that anyone or any business can use to create their own checklist templates or download already-made checklists. Checklists are made up of categories and tasks and can include photographs, audio and notes.

It’s a one of a kind risk, audit and project management tool for iPad and it’s free.   Checklists can be scheduled for specific calendar days (e.g 25 November 2012) or repeatable periods of time (e.g every Monday, Wednesday and Friday).   Scheduled checklists automatically move into your Reportable INBOX and once complete will move into Completed Reports so that everything is accounted for.

If tasks in the checklist aren’t satisfactory then these can be assigned to different staff members in your company or a company you outsource to.   New personel will receive an email telling them they have a task waiting from you.  Synching will save all your data to the server so if you lose your iPad all you need do is sign-in to another iPad and your information will be restored.

What will this help with? JSA (job safety analysis), WHS (workplace health and safety), OHS (occupational health and safety), project management, auditing, risk management and keeping you and your company on top of ever-changing government guidelines.1

Thumbs Up

  • cost is free
  • simple registration is required
  • can attach photos and audio to the report
  • 17 “already-made” checklists are available ($.99 each)
  • develop your own custom checklists from scratch
  • can schedule and assign future inspections
  • completed inspection checklists can be emailed in PDF format

Thumbs Down

  • no instructions or video tutorial provided
  • does not auto-populate its’ contacts folder with your email contacts – each contact must be entered manually
  • creating your own custom checklist from scratch is complicated and takes far too much time
  • their “already-made” checklists do not comply with USA OSHA requirements
  • many of the “already-made” checklist questions are just plain bad (e.g. “check chains”, “check load guard in place”, “check undercarriage debris removed” on forklift checklist) – these bad questions can not be deleted or modified

Overall Rating

  • iPad – ♥♥
  • iPhone – not available
