Safety App Of The Week

November 24, 2014 No Comments

Below is this week’s “Safety App of the Week“.  Every Monday we publish an article that reviews and rates a new workplace safety app.  Our testing is done on Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3s.  We rate each app from to ♥♥♥♥♥ (♥♥♥♥♥ is the best).  Prior app of the week articles are archived here.

EASremote

Official Description

“The EASe tool provides a convenient method to calculate popular manual handling and ergonomic assessments.  Output results as PDF for transfer or Email.

Includes the following three different tools:

  • NIOSH Lifting Equation (in both U.S. and metric units)
  • Lifting MAC ( Manual Handling Assessment Chart) from the UK
  • Manual Handling Risk Reckoner from the Accident Compensation Corporation in New Zealand.

An essential tool for health and safety professionals who want to speed up their ergonomic assessments.  Great for training or explaining the assessment methods to others in a clear visual manner.  The tool makes it very easy to see what factors contribute to the results and where to focus to improve your lifting or manual handling tasks and reduce the risk of injury.1

Thumbs Up

  • cost is only $3.79
  • colorful
  • three separate tools for evaluating lifting exposures
  • we really like the “Lifting MAC” tool – we’d buy this app just to use this tool
  • can email the results of each evaluation
  • works off-line

Thumbs Down

  • complex to use – no instructions are provided
  • each screen is far too busy and crowded
  • the NIOSH tool and the Lifting MAC tool are not offered in U.S. units
  • there are better free apps available for the “NIOSH Lifting Equation” tool
  • the “Manual Handling Risk Reckoner” tool is the weakest of their three tools

Overall Rating

  • iPad  – ♥♥♥
  • iPhone – not available
  • Android –  not available
  • Overall – we’d buy this app just for the excellent “Lifting MAC” tool
